DIY activity for kids: Coloring with Ice Cubes

{Photo Credit: Kids Matter}

Hi Guys! I am back! This week I decided to do a Do It Yourself Craft. It is a very easy thing but I think kids will have a lot of fun helping make it and then actually playing with it! It is very inexpensive as well and that’s always a bonus!

Coloring with Ice Cubes

Materials:

Ice Cube Tray

Small Bowls

Food Coloring

Spoons

Popsicle Sticks

Directions:

  1. Start out filling the small bowls with water and adding food coloring to the water till you reach the desired color for each.

2.  Spoon the colored water into the ice cube tray. Even adding colors  together to make other colors.    *Let kids get creative! Let them make their own colors!

  1. When you have made as many cubes as you want, place the tray in the freezer till they are slushy.

  1. Once slushy, place a popsicle stick into each colored cube. And place the tray back into the freezer till completely frozen.

  1. Finally the cubes are ready! Give the kids tons of paper and a safe place to paint.  Try newspaper on any surface that could stain.  Then loosen all the cubes in the tray.  Let them start coloring on the paper with the cubes! *Use until they are all melted or put back in the trays and add more colored water to be ready for the next time!

Tip: Snow Days: Using spray bottles, add colored water and let them spray the snow! Reminds me of sidewalk chalk!

  1. Wow, this was a really cool idea, great way to use ice cube trays for something different than creating ice cubes. Will definitely try this out!
