Frugal Date Night

Not only can it be hard for my husband and I to find time to have a date night, but going out to dinner and a movie can be expensive. Not to mention we would have to pay for someone to watch out kids. Instead we have a frugal date by staying in and having a movie night at home {alone!}. Since it is a date night we like to make special goodies to treat ourselves! Having delicious snacks to go along with a great movie is the best part of our date night. Below you will find the recipe to one of our favorite sweet and salty movie night snacks – M&M’s® popcorn pretzel bites!

To plan our frugal date night I wanted to make sure I picked the perfect movie. So, I headed to our local Walmart and was excited to see the variety of movies that were on sale for only $5! You can visit one of these select Walmart stores to score these movie night essentials including M&M’s® and Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn. Be sure to look for this display to get the items you need.

As I scanned through the movies I saw Forest Gump, Green Lantern, I Am Legend  and a few other great titles. But, then I found The Notebook! What better movie to watch for date night than The Notebook! I grabbed the movie and then made sure to get everything I need to make our yummy treat.

Now that I had everything I needed for our frugal date night I made sure the kids were asleep and quickly made our snack before starting the movie.

M&M’s® Popcorn Pretzel Bites Instructions:

  1. Start by popping a bag of Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn according to the directions on the bag. Let cool.
  2. Melt a 1/2 stick of butter in a small bowl.
  3. Melt the marshmallows in a small bowl. I used about half a bag of the large marshmallows.
  4. Combine the melted butter, marshmallows and M&M’s® in a bowl stir. You can put in as many M&M’s® as you want.
  5. Scoop out chunks of the mixture and formthem into small ball-like pieces and put a pretzel on the bottom and top. Let cool otherwise they will be sticky. You can then top it with chocolate sauce or carmel.
  6. Enjoy! Frugal Date Night
