  1. Folks, I have taken it upon myself to drastically reduce the energy usage in my home. There are numerous ways to do this and you do not have to be an electrician to do this. I have run a meter on all my plug in devices to calculate hourly, quarterly and annual cost. You do not have to go to this extreme but it is important to recognize the big $$ items on your electricity bill. Please study and get to know what your bill tells you. Know what peak/off peak mean and tariff per kWh (killowatt hour). Also do NOT run your hot water hotter than it needs to be (do your homework). Know the running temps of your fridge and freezers. The big 3 $$ hogs are heating, cooling and hot water. Target each one and get those costs down. Don’t be lazy and change providers if you have to. As an example, I have found that airflow and natural heat shielding of my house has drastically reduced our dependency on our split system aircon even during heatwaves of 42C. If you are in the middle of summer, start thinking about winter and visa versa. Good Luck…
