Sweet and Sour Meatballs Crockpot – Kid Favorite

Sweet & sour crockpot Meatballs … YUM!!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs Recipe

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

These sweet and sour meatballs are extremely easy to make. You only need 3 ingredients. I finally found a recipe that my picky two year old will eat! I honestly feel like it is a constant battle trying to cook foods that he enjoys. My husband and I have a difficult time getting him to try new foods, especially meat.

I love that this recipe is inexpensive to make because my family and I have been wasting a TON of money on food, and I know it is because I do not use a meal plan. Recently, I came across the $5 Meal Plan. It only costs $5 a month and you will get meal plans sent straight to you along with a shopping list for those meals. WOW! Could it get an easier?

I was thrilled when I made these Sweet and Sour Meatballs in the crockpot and he not only tried them but actually asked for more. Did you know they make a Wifi-Enabled Crockpot! Yes, WiFi enabled!! Check it out!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs Ingredients:

As you can see from the picture this recipe does not require a lot.

  • Frozen Meatballs {16oz}
  • Jelly {1 1/2 cups}
  • Ketchup {1 1/2 cups}

If you like spicier foods you can add a little bit of chili sauce as well. Since I wanted this to be simple I used frozen meatballs, but you can use homemade meatballs too.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs Directions:

I love easy dinner recipes and this is definitely a simple dinner. Combine the jelly and ketchup into a mixing bowl and stir. Next, put the meatballs into the crockpot and add the sauce over top. I like to mix it up so that the meatballs are evenly coated. You can either cook it for 3-4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. My crockpot is extremely hot so mine were done in about 3 hours.

You can serve these with rice, mashed potatoes or noodles. I was not sure if my kids were going to like them so I added a toothpick for them to use. I am not sure if it was the novelty of the toothpick, but I was shocked when they both tried the sweet and sour meatballs.

  1. The recipe I use is meatballs, jelly, and chili sauce – no ketchup. It’s not spicy but has a better flavor than ketchup.

      1. I, like an idiot, used habanero sauce. Don’t do that. I took a bite two hours and 1 cup of ice cream ago and my lips still burn.

  2. What type of chili sauce would you use with this? Like the canned sauce for chili beans? or hot mexican chile sauce? Thanks!

    1. I use Hunt’s. It is just like catsup, only has a little pickle relish added. Not spicy at all. Find it in the catsup and mustard aisle.

  3. I use a can of cranberry sauce, a bottle of chili sauce (found in condiment aisle at store) and 6 oz. of grape jelly. VERY YUMMY, I’m requested to make them for EVERY event we have/attend.

  4. We also use 1 can of cranberry sauce, Heinz chili sauce, brown sugar and a splash of lemon juice. They are always the first appetizer to go!

  5. You can do these on the stove top too? Or do you have to do in Crock-pot? I was wanting to make for dinner and I don’t have 3 hours after work to get them done.

  6. This has been a not so secret family recipe for years. My grandmother always made them for family gatherings. She didn’t have a crock pot so all was dome on the stove. She taught how to make the best meatballs, that I still use today .My 30 something year old son this is the only way he will eat meatballs.
    Thank for giving away our family recipe hope all enjoy it.
