Have you received your tax return money yet? Most people I know spend the money before they even get it back. Every year my husband and I are conservative and use our money to pay down debt, add to our kids college savings accounts or save it in our emergency fund. It is difficult to get this ‘extra’ money and not spend it on items that we just want instead of need.
So, this year, we decided to treat ourselves buy purchasing one gift for each of the members of our family. It is a nice way to get a little something extra and not having to worry so much about the cost since it was coming out of our tax return money.
Most of you know this, but I am frugal minded so I am constantly seeking the best deals and prices. I still wanted to be realistic when making these purchases so I decided to go to our local Walmart since I knew we would get the most bang for our buck.
My two older boys’ eyes’ lit up when I told them they could pick out a special item from Walmart. I thought it was going to be hard for them to choose, but they both immediately ran to get VTech Kidizoom smart watches.
These were definitely not something I would normally spend our money on, but they could not be happier.
Next came my youngest. Since he is only eighteen months old I was kind of puzzled on what to get him. Most of the time he gets hand-me-downs, so it was nice to figure out a special item to treat him to. Now that it is finally starting to get warmer I know that the majority of our days will be spent outside. With that in mind, I knew he would love to have a swing to use outside.
My husband was extremely easy to pick out his item. He immediately went straight for a new wet-dry vac that he had been wanting for quite some time. This will definitely get a ton of use!
Now came the hard part, picking something for myself. I am sure most Mom’s can relate with me when I say it is difficult spending money on an item that is entirely for you. I always think of my family, so when I go shopping I rarely ever spend money on me.
I walked into Walmart knowing this time was going to be different. Well, I endlessly walked around the store for more than a half hour! I kept thinking to myself “I do not need this item, but I want it,” then I would proceed to put it back on the shelf. After walking up and down each aisle I decided that I would splurge on myself. After all it is extra money from our tax return!
I purchased a new set of Rachel Ray pots and pans. They are glorious! To be true to myself, I did have my family in mind since all of our meals will be cooked with this new set. My husband totally caught me off guard, but definitely captured my excitement.
Have you ever splurged and went on a shopping spree with your tax return? Walmart has the most affordable items for you and your family. Not sure what to buy to treat yourself? If you are frugal like me then you are probably trying to think of something that is affordable but would still be a great purchase.
I would suggest purchasing a Straight Talk Wireless phone for half the cost. No contracts and great service with nationwide coverage on America’s best and most dependable networks.
