Have you noticed the increase in prices at your grocery store? The prices of everyday products are always increasing, which makes grocery shopping an even larger expense. Even though prices consistently rise there are a lot of ways that you can still save money. Check out these 10 frugal grocery money saving tips.

10 Frugal Grocery Money Saving Tips:

1. Start making a meal plan. Before you do any grocery shopping, figure out what you are going to make for each meal and write it down. Having a plan not only helps with trying to figure out what to cook every night, but it helps you stick to certain meals so that you do not end up eating fast food.

2. Once you have your meal plan complete, make a shopping list with all of the ingredients that you will need. You may get to the grocery store and end up buying items that you think you need. This will help prevent any unnecessary purchases at the grocery store.

3. Grab the sales ad for your local grocery store and your coupons. Match the items on your list to the sales and coupons. If you want to save the most money, you can even use the sales ad to plan your meals based only on items that are on sale.

4. Shop on double coupon day to maximize coupon savings, or other special sale days that your local store offers.

5. Once in the store, make sure that you stick to your list. Veering off path from the list will blow your budget.

6. Do not shop while you are hungry. You will be tempted to buy everything in your path! I am constantly falling victim to this. I go to the store with an empty stomach and want to purchase everything in site.

7. Join your store’s savings program. Most grocery stores have a card that you can scan at the register to get extra savings. For example, every $1 you spend is equal to 1 point. Once you reach 500 points, you can get $10 off of any purchase of $10 or more.

8. Buy frozen vegetables at the grocery store and fresh produce at a local farmer’s market for big savings. {here are great tips on saving money on produce}

9. Do not buy single serving, individually wrapped snacks. These are way more expensive than buying a large size and dividing them into servings yourself.

10. If you have a smartphone, download apps like Ibotta to get money back on your grocery purchases.

While you can’t stop increasing prices at the grocery store, you can still save money without skimping on quality and nutrition. Follow these 10 frugal grocery shopping tips to get the most for your money and still eat good, healthy food.

  1. I am finding some very good tips on your website. I am new to all of this. I am following people that look like they know what they are doing when it comes to living frugal, but have found myself a little overwhelmed with it. I do know that groceries is one area I can start. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we don’t have stores that double coupons. I am learning that every $1 helps so I have started doing most of the tips on this page. Any advice that you have or websites that would help or even people I should follow on twitter or facebook to help me to get all the coupons that are available to me. Times are a little tough so I am trying to do my part in helping my family financially. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
