Caramel Apple Trifle Directions:

I have a trifle bowl that I use to make my recipes. It comes with a plastic lid for transporting and its really easy to clean. You want to start by preparing the cake. If you choose to use store bought then you can get started right away, otherwise wait until your cake has cooled before starting to layer the trifle. Next, prepare your pudding and chill. I recommend using the instant pudding because it is easier and faster.

Now begin your layers. I like to start with the cake at the bottom so that it provides a base. It makes it easier to serve. Here are the layers I did:

  1. Layer of Cake
  2. Drizzled Caramel Sauce on top of the cake
  3. Layer Vanilla Pudding
  4. Layer 1 Can of Apple Pie Filling
  5. Layer of Cool Whip
  6. Repeat
  7. Top it off with Cool Whip and Caramel Sauce
  8. Enjoy!

    1. Wonderful recipe, but I made some adjustments. For the cake I used my homemade blueberry muffin recipe without the blueberries and cubed the muffins. For the caramel and vanilla pudding, I made homemade and for the apples, I peeled and cut up in a 9×12″ casserole with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and baked. I whipped heavy cream.

        1. I have made it the night before. I would not make it too far in advance because the cake would get soggy and the layers may run into one another.

      1. I see the fancy glass type bowl but what else does everyone use.How big should it be and where can you get the bowl they show?

  1. Can’t wait to try this version! have been making similar recipe with store bought angel food cake, vanilla instant pudding, cool whip and fresh fruit, what ever is in the house. Strawberries are great! also peaches, bananas, nectarines or whatever you have on hand.

  2. Hi Addi. I’ll be making your delish dessert this weekend. Can you tell me, do you cut the cake up into chucks? One recipe put the whole 9″ layer into the bowl.

    Thank you, Ter 😉

    1. Hi Terri! I actually like to break the cake up into chunks at the bottom. I have tried putting bigger pieces in a few other recipes, but I like to just crumble the layer. Glad you are going to make it this weekend 🙂

  3. I have made this using cherry pie filling (the favorite of all my family) and it tastes great. We all like apple desserts at this time of year so I am going to try this recipe for a church social we are having Saturday afternoon. Thanks for posting. Also I had found your link from fb and registered for your newsletter. I love trying new recipes and my husband likes moist desserts so I think this will be a “hit” with him.

    1. Hi Jo Ann, thanks for stopping by. I definitely need to try this with cherries. I bet it is delicious. I hope you and your friends at the social enjoy this recipe as much as I do!

  4. I made this five times, I used different cake mixes and pudding mixes and it turned out great each time. Will certainly be making this for Thanksgiving (2014).
